NUFC Target Debuchy, Douglas, and Krkic

There’s been increasing speculation in the past few days regarding Newcastle United’s foray into the transfer market, or lack thereof. Both the club and Manager are sticking to their policy of not being held to ransom with ridiculous transfer fees, Luuk De Jong and FC Twente being one such example. A club in the position of Newcastle’s simply can’t afford to pay over the top fees for average players. A fifth place finish in the Premier League last year saw us qualify for Europe, but miss out on the coveted Champions League spot.

Pardew has gone on record and said that we need players better than those which are currently at the club if we are to push on and break into the Premier League’s top four. So, are Debuchy, Douglas, and Krkic better than what we have?

The Daily Mail has reported that a fee of £7 million has been agreed between the Toon and Lille, with Pardew keen for the French fullback to join the club’s pre-season tour of Germany. Inter Milan also had an interest in the player, but Cabaye’s presence at Newcastle looks to have sealed the deal.

Meanwhile, the Douglas transfer to Newcastle rumour seems to have resurfaced, with the Chronicle publishing an article saying that the Toon are ready to reopen talks with FC Twente. I think that article is a bit of a nothing story really, but there’s no smoke without fire. All fingers point to Douglas wanting out – he’s training by himself, and hasn’t been selected for any of FC Twente’s pre-season friendlies or Europa qualifying games. I’m a bit more cautious about this one than I am about Debuchy – I think that transfer is much further along than Douglas joining Newcastle.

A bit of a surprise one this one – according to some media outlets, Newcastle are prepared to do a swap deal with Roma’s forward Bojan Krkic and are ready to send Davide Santon in the other direction. I’m not sure this one has any legs at all considering Santon is highly rated by the coaching staff at St. James’s, and whether Krkic would have any desire to play in the Premier League remains to be seen.

So, three possible transfer targets for Newcastle United with Debuchy looking the most likely to happen. Who are you wanting the Toon to sign?
