Massadio Haidara, a 20 year old French fullback today signed for Newcastle United on a 4 and a half year deal. The French under 21 international and former Nancy player is highly rated in France, and is known for his pace. He will wear the Number 19 shirt.
Haidara makes it three signings (and three Frenchmen) in three days, with Sissoko joining tomorrow according to Toulouse. If Sissoko does join, that will take our incoming transfers to four in the space of a week, and five in total – let’s not forget Mathieu Debuchy. When you look at the signings, they’re all quality buys – Mbiwa and Sissoko especially. If the latter were English, you’re most likely looking at around £15 million for each.
What’s impressed me so much with these new lads is their character. They all seem intelligent and down to earth, and when being interviewed by the official site they said that they liked to stay at home and play video games. The last thing we need at Newcastle is big time Charlies, so the fact that these guys are coming for footballing reasons and aren’t looking to upset the apple cart and going out on the town speaks volumes.
It appears that Mike Ashley is unwriting the wrongs of not strengthening the squad in the summer and we have to give him some credit. Aye, some of this should have been done in the summer, but what’s done is done and we have to move on. I can’t wait until the Villa game now, and instead of being nervous, we approach that game with excitement and anticipation.
Vive le Toon!
