One of the three names that I mentioned in yesterday’s post of potential incoming transfers was that of Yoan Gouffran. Gouffran who can play either as a striker or an attacking wide player today signed for Newcastle with the fee being undisclosed. A four and a half year deal was agreed, and the former Bordeaux man will wear the Number 11 shirt once worn by Peter Lovenkrands.
I think the addition of Gouffran is admirable, and the Toon clearly need more strength in depth as our squad is fairly average on the whole. However, what remains to be seen is if we’ll make a move for a replacement for Demba Ba. Gouffran is an attacking player, but right now, Shola and Papiss Cisse are the only two recognized senior strikers at the club. I don’t know about you, but I’m not sure I’d be comfortable pinning our survival hopes on an out of form striker and one that isn’t exactly setting the world alight
There is no further update from the club on Massadio Haidara or Sissoko, with the latter hoping to push through a move to Newcastle sooner rather than later.
